Press Release

Date: Feb. 15, 2012
Location: Hobbs, NM
Issues: Elections

Yesterday, Congressman Steve Pearce filed his declaration of candidacy in the race to once again represent New Mexico's Second Congressional District as the U.S. Representative. Pearce submitted 2,100 nominating petitions, almost three times the necessary 799 needed to file.

"With this coming election, our nation and our state are at a crossroads," said Pearce. "We are engaged in a fight for our Constitutional rights and for our right to work hard and get ahead. We are in a constant battle to preserve conservative principles of small government and liberty. Whether helping New Mexican families get more money back in their pockets, standing up for the rights of New Mexico small business owners, or helping constituents with individual problems, I have fought alongside New Mexicans across the district. No matter the fight, I will continue to stand beside New Mexicans, and it would be an honor to serve you all in this way again. Thank you all for your support in the nominating process."

Congressman Pearce has been an active advocate for spending cuts, job creation and lower taxes. He has engaged in fights against big government policies that threaten the jobs of New Mexicans. Perhaps, most notably, he has continually opposed the listing of the dunes sagebrush lizard. This listing has the potential to kill jobs that New Mexicans depend upon to survive. Additionally, Pearce is a strong supporter of upholding 2nd Amendment rights and fights to protect the right to life.
